Hi - I've owned Skodas since 1999 and in Aug 2018 bought a 2yr old L&K 4x4 (8.5k on clock) - now 25k.
Long story short January 2020 noticed soggy o/s footwell (Yep! - went on internet and saw loads about leaking pano roof) -took it to main dealer who blamed replacement windscreen - had that checked and nothing wrong with it - March they diagnosed "distorted pano roof frame" with a £2.2K repair bill - I started arguing with Skoda UK that it was clearly either a design or manufacturing fault and no fault of mine (Warranty expired Aug 2019).

Covid came along and Skoda UK eventually offered 20% off as "goodwill gesture". Spoken to Motor Ombudsman who said they would investigate but would take 6 months - car had to be repaired with wet weather coming so refused 20% offer (Ombudsman will not take on case if you accept an offer) and repair carried out - now got 2 year guarantee on that work.
What I would be interested in is whether any members have actually reported this fault previously to Skoda UK or know of numbers of reports of this fault that Skoda have received as the stock response seems to be that it's the first time its been raised.
Very disappointed with Skoda UK as never ever had a problem with previous Skodas

Many thanks!

Welcome Greybeard :)

The sunroof problem is certainly one that we are well aware of to such an extent that a number of members refer to the L&K as LE&K. Not sure if any of those who have suffered the problem, and it's not just L&K models, have reported it direct to Skoda but it has been claimed under warranty I think so Skoda have some data on the issue. Hopefully you will get some responses to your query directly from those affected.

Hi Greybeard, welcome to the forum. I have been publicly flogged and banned from mentioning sun roof problems, I hope you have success with your claim.

Hi Greybeard
Just been through same problem and there is a manufacturers fault.I have same model and sunroof went with 30000 miles on clock but out of warranty. Skoda agreed 50% towards costs. New roof fitted then 7 months later glass exploded and sunroof tray split again. Skoda picked up tab as this time under warranty. We are just waiting for next problem but under 2 year warranty. I told Skoda this is manufacturing fault but they disagreed.
Good luck.

Hi,

Looking for any help with a major leaky sun roof.

My Yeti, is just 4 years old (66 plate). While still under warranty, sunroof leaking, took it back to main dealer, apparently sorted. Now the problem is back. At the time of the repair I was told it was a seal and it had been repaired and sorted, but I have a major problem with it. I took it to another garage, who said that Skoda had released a technical info sheet? TPI 2051590/2 which confirms I need a new sunroof frame. The cost for the part alone is over £2k. Apparently Skoda have about 80 of them sitting on the shelves, so know it's a problem. I just don't know what to do. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would have thought in your case that there will be a two year warranty on the repair they carried out so you could argue that they didn't repair it properly/misdiagnosedit in the first instance. However if my experience is anything to go by they will wriggle and argue that this a completely different fault causing the leak and blame...... the frame distorting/wear and tear on it/you failing to have it lubricated at service time/the windscreen is leaking/insert any other claptrap you want to make up which lets Skoda UK avoid taking responsibility for a design/manufacturing fault. Yes I had all of those.

I was told by Skoda the roof frame cost was £1.4k which rose to £1.7k if they had to replace the blind as well so with labour and VAT your well over £2k. I even Emailed CEO Rod Mcleod ([email protected]) and got absolutely nowhere.
That is why I ended up paying the bill under protest, not accepting their desultory 20% offer and am now going through the Ombudsman route.
I don't know what to advise you - it is like living through a nightmare. It's winter now and you need a car that doesn't leak .
Maybe if more people reported to the Ombudsman, Skoda might get some bad press and do something about this. My aim is to get enough evidence for the ombudsman to prove that Skoda knew they had a problem and did not deal with it properly. But then look at Dieselgate........

I wish you all the best

Thanks for coming back to me.

I did approach the main dealer and was told that the repair didn't have a warranty. The garage that I took the car to, said that Skoda must know they have a problem, because they've got 80 of the frames sitting on shelves, and why would they have over £100k sitting on shelves? I was told the frame alone was £2.2k, then you have to fit it, so I wouldn't get much change out of £2.8k. I have a Vax cleaner, and sucked out about 5L of water out of the passenger foot well yesterday, and I'm just stuck.

I thought there was a repair, for it? other than to replace the complete frame.

There are also a couple of posts on here, here is one

You could also try writing to Rip Off Britain, they like stories like this. I contacted them about the emissions cheat and they got in touch with me and combined with Watchdog televised the problem. Even if it does not get a personal resolution it is very satisfying seeing them get lousy publicity on national TV.

Where are you?

Rainworth Skoda (Mansfield) have a tech that specialises in Pan Roof repairs. A full sunroof is over £3k at a dealer fitted. I had the repair done, seats out, carpets out and dried, I didn't have to pay but the cost was £1400

Hi, I'm in the South West. How long did the repair take? (Just thinking a night or two away, when out of lockdown).

It was over a week but the majority of that time was drying out the carpets.
