I know very little about the mechanics of cars and would like some advice please.
My Yeti has an oil leak on the drive shaft. I’ve had the driveshaft seals replaced but there is still a leak. I have now been told there is ‘movement in the diff bearings’ and it will be expensive to fix.

Is it worth fixing or do I get rid of the car?

10 years old, 39000 miles, 1.2 engine.

Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks.

Did they say how expensive, expensive would be? You need to balance how much you want to keep the car or how much it would cost to replace.
Is the leak any different to how it was before, when putting the driveshaft back care needs to be taken that the splines do not damage the new seals, I wonder if they may have nicked it.
There are products that are supposed to cure oil leaks by making the seal swell slightly, I have never used one and don't know if the work (example below)

Hi The Hood.
I have been told approx £1500 at mates rates as I know the service manager personally.
I would say the leak is getting slightly worse as times go on.
The first repairs were done in February, then we went into lockdown and the garage was closed so I couldnt get it looked at until recently.
I like the car but not sure if it is worth throwing money at it.
As I said I don’t know much about the mechanics of cars and the service manager started mentioning something about looking for a new gearbox, and asking if was planning on keeping the car!!
Maybe he was trying to hint I should get rid of it.
All a bit awkward as I also know the sales manger at the garage who sold it to me 3 years ago.

Is the quote from a Garage/dealership? Sometimes a transmission specialist is a better way to go because they only deal with one aspect of the vehicle and can be far more efficient at identifying and fixing a fault.
