Asda have no less than four different types of 5W-40 fully synthetic oils for petrol and diesel vehicles. The cheapest (5litres) was £19 going up to...wait for it...£32 for Volkswagen/Skodas. Can anybody tell me why this is and would it make any difference to performance/longevity for me to just use the cheapest fully synthetic. I only do around 10k a year and poodle around the place. Comments please

Hi Flintstone, thank you for your comprehensive reply. I'm still at a loss as why all the Asda fully synthetic oils have the same specifications but have different prices. The choices on offer are below-

They all or exceed the requirements of specification VW 504.00/507.00.
I'm sure you are correct regarding the oil heating up to correct temperatures on longer runs-that makes sense. I do though change the oil on a yearly basis. My last two golfs both had over 150k on the clock when I sold them even though I used the cheapest semi-synthetic oil. You would be quite safe to buy a car from me as you would get every detail of it's history ( I keep all receipts). I would only believe a car dealer as far as I could see him! I love my yeti so not selling yet! Cheers
