Intermittent wipe.

How do?

Anyone heard of or suffered any problems with the intermittent wipers not wiping?

I turn the wipers to the first position, intermittent, the wipers swipe once then not again unless I flick the timer wheel to one side, they'll wipe once but not again unless I flick the timer wheel to the opposite side then again, just the one wipe.
When it's not raining sufficient enough to have the wipers on constant, I have to put the stalk in the off position and just tap the stalk down for a single wipe.

I have tried cleaning the windscreen by the sensor and this did work, once. The next time I needed the wipers, again no joy on intermittent.

Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Kenny,
Thanks for your reply, yes sorry Auto wipers.
I can leave them in the 'Auto' position until I cannot see at all due to the amount of rain on the windscreen. I then have to flick them on for a wipe or two.
I have cleaned the glass by the sensor, the area by the interior mirror mount, run water from a hose onto the whole screen and they worked. Tried this yesterday and nothing.
so really it appears it could be the sensor that's at fault then?
Will have to do a little more investigating.

Thanks again Kenny, appreciated.
Keith

UPDATE:

It is the sensor, you can now see, from outside the vehicle, where the sensor is coming 'unstuck'.
The gel that the 'radar' (Skoda staff description) 'sees' through is coming away from the glass causing the fault.
Service at Skoda asked me if the car had had a new windscreen fitted at all? No, all as it came from the robots.
Anyway, I have booked a service with them for next week and they will look at it under warranty while it's there.
Have also asked if they can program the 'brain' into accepting my rear LED lights. Their reply was that they had never done it or been asked before. Again, "leave them fitted and we'll see if it can be done?

The agent is DM Keith of Wakefield. the lad I spoke to was very, and I mean very helpful. So far, so good.

By the way, you can get the sensor on-line from various places on the interwebbynet for around the £75 to £85 mark. OR you can get the exact same thing from the Orient for £18 posted!!
So I have, just in case.

Hi Keith... I find the auto wipers, in the main. work very well indeed. However occasionally I have to flick the timer wheel to give them "a nudge" if there is a very light shower.I have never had the problem of them wiping a dry screen as happened on my Tig.One thing to remember is to switch them back to the off position when you park up at night if there is any chance of frost or even worse snow...... If they are on auto and the screen is covered in snow or the wipers are frozen to the screen you can damage the wiper motor.

Mine were the same, so much better than the 'old' intermittent, timed wipe.
At the moment as I say, you can now see where the sensor is pulling away from the screen, about half the width of the sensor, this is why it's stopped being 'intelligent' and refuses to work. It cannot see through the gap between the glass and sensor without it being sealed by the sticky gel.

I've tried to push the whole mount back towards the glass but it isn't having it.
If it was out of warranty, I'd have a go now, between the wind and rain showers but I don't want to mess anything up, if you get my drift.

UPDATE:

Car serviced today, washed, vacced and they have 'repaired' the rain sensor AND managed to re-code the rear LED lights.

Everything is Hunky Dory!!!

Thank you DM KEITH of Wakefield and James of the service dept.
Will be going back for the next service.

Although Keefe got his problem fixed I had some time to spare and decided to do a bit of research on the problem.
There are posts on several forums about problems with auto wipers. It seems quite often it is because a replacement screen has been fitted, and the fitter has penny pinched and re used the adhesive pad on the sensor. There are a couple of options, one is to use a replacement sticky pad or a liquid Gel. Here is a source of a replacement pad.
