Time on infotainment head unit displays 00:00/06:28 instead of the real time shown on Instrument cluster

2016 Yeti 1.2 tsi petrol with navigation unit - currently around 70,000 miles. Maintained by Skoda dealer until two years ago, so software possibly out of date now.

Just noticed that the head unit intermittently displays time fixed at either 00:00 (in 24 hr mode) or bizarrely 06:28. Clock on instrument cluster is fine, though never synchronised with GPS/radio/phone.

No obvious problems other than navigation times displayed are obviously now an offset from 00:00 rather than a real time. Annoys from seat passenger since that's the clock she uses, driver obviously uses the instrument cluster and sees the right time! Judging by Google searches, this problem (06:28) problem may be a known issue on VAG cars. Anybody on this forum any ideas on how to fix?

Hi my yeti 2015 , had started giving same problem 00:00 on the head unit and flicks back and fourth from 06:28 to 00:00 around every 30 seconds. but the cluster clock is also fine. my car only had a cam belt done by the dealer last week . im being told the head unit may be faulty. did manage to find out the problem with yours.

Hi 'Palepage', possibly another example of 'They would say that, wouldn't they?'! I suspect it's a software issue. Since you're still having yours serviced by a main dealer, did they do a full firmware update on the car's electrics at the last service? If not, it might be worth requesting, unless anybody else on here thinks that would be a red herring?

#5 ·
That's three instances of this problem in the last month. Something seems strange but software update happening on all three seems unlikely as they haven't all been near a dealer.

I was thinking more of a duration/mileage trigger issue in the base software of the head unit referring back to date/time first commissioned, mileage/time since last dealer service etc. That could be either a simple coding bug or a (slightly more cynical) deliberate feature to trigger a failure outside warranty.

(Not that I'm suggesting that VAG or the head manufacturer would do anything so devious! )

My radio doesn't have a clock, does the clock on those units set automatically? If it does it might be a signal problem possibly worth checking the aerial for corrosion they are known to get corroded. If it was who/what provides the signal it would be everyone.

The clocks on mine (head unit and cluster) used to be in synch with each other but were dependent on being manually set at the cluster MFD display. I've not found any way of synchronising them to an external signal via radio/GPS/bluetooth. I've read somewhere that it's a feature of the VAG base which for some reason was not enabled in the Yeti.

Thanks. Is this a Bolero unit(no sat nav)so wonder what versions other people have who don't have the same issue.

#13 ·
We've just developed the same problem on our 2015 1.2 Yeti. The infotainment unit was replaced with a new one a year ago. Has anyone found a solution yet? Also has anyone had a problem with the reversing diagram disappearing? Ours disappeared when the infotainment unit was replaced last year. The (main dealer) garage tried to tell us that the diagram must have been an add on that they're not responsible for.

Hi All, Joined this forum specifically for this reason - ours has also just developed this issue, pretty much exactly around mid to End October.
We have 65 plate 2.0 TDI Yeti with the bolero (no nav) system - also with the Hardware (H20) and software (0241) versions as above.

I wonder if pre-manufactured headunits from 2014 have turned 10 years old then, which they might not be coded for... ?

#15 ·
You would expect other VAG forums to be having the same issue reported but not seen any others (yet!)

#26 ·
I think it maybe a widespread issue with VAG cars tbh because I had to use some fairly specific wording (despite being fairly well versed in Googleology) to find this thread!

Now the real question is wtf was VW reasoning to have 3 BLOODY CLOCKS?!?! (1 mfd, 1 analog centre dash and 1 just below that on the head unit)

#17 ·
Again a Yeti, no other models seems to suffer this problem which seems slightly odd as I assume the head units are used across the VAG range, but maybe that's a wrong assumption.

#19 ·
I can't help with a solution (my 65 plate Yeti also has this issue) but I did notice if I change the dash clock from 24h to 12h clock then the infotainment clock then is stuck on 12.00 rather than 0.00, so there's some sort of link still going on. Furthermore if you keep the radio on and turn ignition off but don't remove key then the clock will start counting up (i.e. leave it for one minute and it will say 0.01).

Our Yeti Mknte Carlo showed this exactly last week. I suspect a software update by Skoda. I have contacted Skoda Customer Service who have replied and contacted my local dealer who charges £120 inspection fee PLUS any repair charge. I've told Skoda I think they should pay as I believe its their problem. I had a gearbox failure 4 years ago when car was 5 years old and just out of extended Warranty. Yet again Skoda not interested. Sadly Skoda does not understand Customer Service.

G'day all, just looking through multiple forums about this problem. Just letting you know that it seems it is a VAG wide issue. I have a 2015 VW Jetta that just started doing this 2 weeks ago. Across multiple forums and threads I see many VAG owners with same issue. It seems that this problem has cropped up just this month (Nov '24) I haven't found a solution as of yet. Hope something comes up soon. 57M, Australia

Well, my 65 plate L&K 1.4 tsi with Amundsen head unit has recently started doing exactly the same, sometime last month, I’m not sure exactly but my wife noticed it! I had a service at a Skoda independent but the service may be a coincidence. Dash clock fine, Sat nav unit says 00.00 but flicks for half a second once a minute to 6.28. If I listen to the radio with the ignition off it begins to count up from 00.00 once per minute. Then goes back to 00.00 and stays there with an occasional very brief flick to 6.28 when I start and run the engine. I have also noticed that if I select the clock face ‘on’ on standby on the satnav it also shows 12.00 and flicks to 6.28! I can set the dash clock using both methods but the nav head stays at 00.00. I will check with my independent but does anyone have any ideas other than those on this thread?

Can you Remember if the clock was working before the Skoda service? My car went in for just a Cambelt change, and while in the Skoda garage, they did a service 23DE Campaign, which is a software update to part of the system. ( The update/recall is for the OBD communication software. This is because existing coms software can sometimes prevent a link to the car.)
My son Noticed a couple of days later the Clock was 00:00/06:28 i then pointed this out to the dealer and they said it had nothing to do with it.

I started having this exact same problem sometime in November with my 65 plate VW CC which is fitted with a Technisat MIB STD2 PQ + NAV.

I've even tried physically removing the unit overnight with no joy.

Given the "coincidence" that it's happening with so many VAG cars, something seems really off....

I have also just developed this problem on my 1.2 2015 model. Changed clock on the speedo but the infotainment clock remains at 00:00, and there is no option on the infortainment to change it. Many people seem to have developed this issue in the past couple of months, see there is another thread about it on another forum. What are the chances of skoda acknowledging the issue and resolving it?

There seems to be couple of issues going on also, namely a blower fan and screen with a mind of its own, however I’m thinking these issues might be unrelated.

Hi Like you in the last few days time shows 0.00 and sometimes 6.28. on my Skoda Yeti L&K 2.0TDI Euro6 2015 with Amundsen unit. Tried some changes with Carista coded 24 Hrs and 0.00 changed to 12.00. Tried changing dd/mm/yy to mm/dd/yy. Nothing worked! My guess I think this unit has just become 10years old from date of manufacture and there is a coding issue. The car is not 10years but the head unit could be. Perhaps this is why lots of issue now. The time to destination on sat nav counts from 0.00. MFD working fine with correct time. Any ideas much appreciated.

Infotainment system with screen problems sounds like the known digitiser problem. It's a DIY fix if you don't mind removing the unit and wielding a torque screwdriver. Other threads on the forum cover this and include video tutorial.

I updated my software from 0241 to 0253 just to see if the reboot might fix it but it didn't do anything. I daren't do any more updates in case it breaks my Android Auto which I rely on. On the other thread SNS (who I should say I have used before to replace my unit when the touchscreen started to fail, and are very good) say this is actually an issue with the instrument cluster. To be honest, though it is annoying, if I can't DIY fix it then I'll probably just live with it.

Got this from Skoda Customer services Could I ask all owners with time problem to contact Customer service email below make a formal complaint. If we all do this perhaps they will listen. This is also happening on Tiguans and Sharans. Keep the pressure on!!! We don't want 0/00 or 6.28

Dear David

Thank you for getting back to me and for providing me with the requested information.

Kindly note that I have contacted Pulman Škoda Cramlington, and I spoke to a member of the Service Team for confirmation on the issue with the infotainment system of the vehicle displaying the incorrect time, causing a discrepancy in the satellite navigation arrival times.

At this point, there is no known issue identified with this, and without a diagnosis, they will not be able to determine what the issue could be. To have the vehicle diagnosed it would be at a cost of 175.00 GBP at the Pulman branch, and they have availability from 29 January 2025.

Should you decide to go ahead with this, you may contact the branch at 016 7073 3373 to make a booking.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused you.
I do hope this information proves useful.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me using the details below. Should I not hear from you within 48 hours, I will conclude you no longer require any assistance from Škoda UK and will close your case.

Following the case closure, you may receive a survey asking about your experience, which is valid for seven days. This will be based on the service that I have provided as a Customer Relations Advisor, and I would be grateful if you could take some time out to rate my performance.
Thank you for reaching out to Škoda UK.

Kind regards

My reply to Skoda (sorry0.00)

Hi Zeenat

Thanks for the reply. I will not be getting a diagnostic done as other Skoda drivers have indicated that other dealers have found no fault codes. To follow this up I will ask the Skoda and VW forums to contact your good selves as I have done so we as a group can endeavour to make this an issue.

I do hope this can eventually be sorted and a firmware update for either the infotainment system or instrument cluster produced and then be rolled out to your loyal customers.

This problem IS NOT unique to Skoda Models. It appears this may be a VAG wide issue, mine for example is a VW CC 2016.

I have however gotten the following fault codes when a good friend of mine who does Car Keys and who is a former auto electrician with higher end diagnostics kit.

004715 U015500 Lost Communication With - Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
