The frame should be stuck to the inside of the bumper.Skoda provide a special cleaner/primer and glue in the kit to fit it.

 

Mine "eventually" came with double sided tape, didn't last 5 minutes until it came loose!
The dealer then stuck it with some "super strong" adhesive that they have and that didn't last much longer.
I've just got it back again from being redone, third time lucky, hopefully. We'll see how long it lasts this time.

 

Went to use the tow bar this weekend for my trailer.
Un clipped the panel for the first time since getting it back after being redone for the third time and what do I find?
Yes, the trim is still flapping loose!!!
Another call to the dealer in the morning, gonna have to start getting mad I think.

Llanigraham, when you say the kit comes with cleaner/primer and glue, is this something they have to order extra as mine came with a double sided sticky tape type stuff.

Does anyone else seem to have problems with this piece of trim?
I'm beginning to think I should have gone for a non detachable towbar with a nice neat cut out around the bar.

 

I thought the kit came with the primer and glue, but it may have been primer and tape. I'm sure the details were published on the "other" site and I seem to remember they had to leave it "set" for 12 hours.

 

This is what the bumper cut out should be like for detachable towbar as a proper job. In this case a Witter fitted by Skoda Dealer.
There is no trim primer or glue.The cover just clips in and is barely visible.

The frame that supports the cut out are the white parts showing around the hole. The link below is for a fitter who gets good press and is the one I would use if I do not fit my own. They now have a Yeti bar video (which I have not watched yet). Maybe the OP should consider visiting someone such as this and getting the framedone properly.

Cornishman, I do not think you are right. The frame is totally separate from the bumper and needs to be secured to the inside in someway.

 

Yes that's correct, the trim is on the inside of the bumper and the panel clips into it.
When I pulled the panel out, the trim was loose again.
They took the car away to do it inside the workshop as they decided last time they stuck it in, it hadn't taken because it was outside and not done at room temperature.
Their super strong glue obviously isn't as good as they seem to think it is

 

That doesn't look like the frame on mine!!

 

The frame in the picture appears to have somethingsimilar to 3M tape. If the same tape has failed a couple of times and is still being re used without being replaced the adhesion will be reduced.

 

That's the same as was on it the first time, they have used their own extra strong glue the twice since, it just looks like some form of silicon to me!

 

I was informed by my dealer, rightly or wrongly, that, knowing the towbar was to be fitted, they obtained the rear grey valance from Skoda correctly pre moulded with the hatch as per the photograph.
At no cost to me, it seems the ideal way to go as it looks good and works with no problem!

Item 4 is the cut out I believe. The link is to the 2012 model parts but you can change that at the top to check if it's different for your model year.

 

4 is indeed the "hatch" but you still need the frame to go around the hole you have to cut in item 2.

 

Does that make it item 3 then? Don't have a tow bar so just relied on the diagram.

 

I've got all the parts but the dealer seems to be struggling to get the frame stuck to the lower bumper panel.
After the third attempt of trying, the first time I pulled the removeable bit out, the frame was loose again.
I'm absolutely fed up with it all.
I had hoped you can buy the lower panel with the hole and frame already done but apparently not according to SkodaUK.

 

Unless they get the surface scrupulously clean they will not succeed.The picture I posted earlier looked like it was held with 3M red tape, there are two versions, high temperature andsuperfast bond.They would probably do well to replace it with fresh and try again. Another option would be to bite the bullet and try a specialist fitter.

 

I was thinking a bodyshop might have something better to do the job with.
At the moment it just seems to me that they're using some form of silicon sealant.

 

Part #3 on the earlier diagram is indeed the frame that goes around the hole.

Skoda provide FULL instructions with the kit, and all the relevant cleaners/primers. If the dealer is too stupid to deal with it then make a formal complaint to SUK. As an ex-rep to the garage and bodyshop industry if they are trying to use silicone sealer then they really are inept!!

 

I have experienece of this product and there is only one adhesive I will and do recomend for ANY plastic and it is Methacrylate. It comes in a twin piston applicator with a short mixer nozzle.
