I've previously noted comments about the roof leak being due to the join between the aluminium side channels and the plastic front channel. I've stumbled on this: Yeti Panoramic Roof Leak.pdf - Google Drive which describes a method of dealing with the leaks at those points. Initially the whole sunroof was removed but the repair can also be done in situ.

I haven't read the whole document as my yeti does not have a sunroof, but it may be useful for others. :)

Interesting, and maybe for those willing to tackle the problem themselves a solution that offers some hope. Well done bryetian.

Thank you Bryetian. At last a sensible solution to the ptsd fears I have suffered since I joined this site. I noticed that the cure was Captain Tolley’s Penetrating Sealer. I still have a bottle of Captain Tolley’s Creeping Crack Cure from my sailing days, which I will keep on stand by.
Besides the more attractive alliteration in the title, I am sure a few of you old boys will find it efficacious in the medical condition you might be suffering.

ps. I have just looked it up and it is the same stuff with a new name. Shame, I think Benny Hill would have preferred the old name too. It is good stuff though and I can vouch that it will stop water penetration through tiny cracks.

The Hood's suggestion of contacting Ripoff Britain is a good one. This problem may become more common as Yetis age, and there are enough owners suffering that some sort of joint pressure/action on Skoda UK might be more productive than individual approaches.
This Ripoff Britain suggestion is a good one. I expecting a call from a Customer Care manager on Tuesday, good job their cars are not as slow as the public relations managers, and will float this idea to possibly gee things up.

I'd also have thought that the PR people at Skoda might consider brand loyalty. If an owner considers they've had a bad experience with a car followed up by a similarly bad experience with the dealer or manufacturer they may take their business elsewhere next time around.
Also, I don't know what the lifespan of a Yeti might be, but if Skoda have x-number of Yeti sunroofs sitting in their warehouse, might it make sense to use at least some of them in a Skoda-driven campaign to rescue a few distressed owners and their own reputation?

Hi there - I have a Skoda Yeti Elegance 1.2 petrol and had leaking in passenger footwell from pan sunroof - took it to the skoda garage that I bought it from in Bradford and was told as it was a 'water ingress' issue that it wouldn't be covered by the warranty. Leak stopped and was fine over autumn and most of winter and then started again. If I park the car facing upwards on an incline it doesn't leak. However having read on this forum seems there is an issue so raised it when had to take the car in again to have the motor that drives the pan sun roof - told by one of the service people that the leak on pan sunroofs was acknowledge by skoda (issue with rubber seal under the frame - hence frame needs to be replaced at a cost of £1800) but not recalled e.g. as in diesel-gate. Does anyone know how long issues with yeti sunroofs have been recognised by skoda as an issue as I only got the car 2 years ago from the skoda garage and the pan sunroof was sold as a desirable feature!! I have extended warranty with Autotrust. Any help appreciated

Skoda know about the issue and have done for some years but don't acknowledge it as any form of design fault so take little or no responsibility for it. Many members on here wouldn't buy a Yeti with a sunroof because of that reason as it comes up time and again.

Full “recalls” are only ever undertaken, in conjunction with and direction of VOSA, for faults that are deemed by VOSA to cause the vehicle to be unsafe to drive. Anything else, either design or manufacture, is at the “discretion” of the importer, distributor and franchised dealer network to sort out. Often via service recommendations. Always non-compulsory. Hence why solutions can differ from dealer to dealer.

The dieselgate software fix was odd, in that it was a bit of hybrid. A non-compulsory VW/Skoda dealer “Service Action” that had some input from VOSA. VOSA’s only involvement however was to mail out the letters inviting owners to take their cars to a dealer. On VOSA headed paper. All paid for by VW (I was told).

Regular Service Actions whatever the cause, don’t normally get recorded on things like HPI checks either. Only full safety recalls.

Hi Jane,

The reason it doesn't leak when parked facing upwards on an incline is that the water then drains to the rear drain hoses. These run in a straight line down the 'C' pillar to the rear wheel arch. The problem with the front hoses is that they don't run straight but are bent around the bottom of the 'A' pillar and come down to drain in the front of the front door frames. The bend can cause problems with the hoses either getting kinked or blocked due to dirt more easiy getting trapped in the bend here. It may be that you just need these hoses checked rather than getting the whole frame replaced.

Can you use something like a bicycle inner brake cable to gently push through the drain, or is it inaccessible ?

I guess you are saying Marshalls fixed your sunroof for free and if so what a great outcome. I do not see in this forum any other such positive reports. Would you like to divulge the email address or the director's name. Not sure how this may help as I went to another franchise unless Wings of Peterborough are in the same group.
By the way I live near Wigan so you can imagine the mirage I am incurring with 2nd visit to Wings.
Paul Abraham franchise director at Marshalls sorted it.

Hi - I've owned Skodas since 1999 and in Aug 2018 bought a 2yr old L&K 4x4 (8.5k on clock) - now 25k.
Long story short January 2020 noticed soggy o/s footwell (Yep! - went on internet and saw loads about leaking pano roof) -took it to main dealer who blamed replacement windscreen - had that checked and nothing wrong with it - March they diagnosed "distorted pano roof frame" with a £2.2K repair bill - I started arguing with Skoda UK that it was clearly either a design or manufacturing fault and no fault of mine (Warranty expired Aug 2019).

Covid came along and Skoda UK eventually offered 20% off as "goodwill gesture". Spoken to Motor Ombudsman who said they would investigate but would take 6 months - car had to be repaired with wet weather coming so refused 20% offer (Ombudsman will not take on case if you accept an offer) and repair carried out - now got 2 year guarantee on that work.
What I would be interested in is whether any members have actually reported this fault previously to Skoda UK or know of numbers of reports of this fault that Skoda have received as the stock response seems to be that it's the first time its been raised.
Very disappointed with Skoda UK as never ever had a problem with previous Skodas

Many thanks!
I am having a recurring leak issue with sunroof on my Yeti L&K 2l 4x4. It's had three inspections 2 by Skoda dealer Wings of Peterborough where I bought car 2nd hand, and one by a VW specialist in St Helens, near where I live. Even when the roof isn't leaking it rattles. Skoda would not fix under my used car warranty. Nobody could find the fault(s?) What a shame because otherwise I think a great car. It seems a new roof the only solution but so much ££££!!! Anybody our there know who could solve my problem and not charge the earth?

I believe Logiclee has previously said that Rainworth Skoda in Mansfield have a technician who specialises in fixing sunroof problems so it may be worth giving them a call to see just how much of the earth they would charge.

Thank you very much for this lead. I will follow it up.
Cheers. Roger
Not sure how much drain repair or replace is.

A repair and reseal is around £1400

Replacement cassette around £2400
